Preparation
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high.
- Add diced onion and ground beef, seasoning with beef bouillon powder, salt, and pepper.
- Cook, stirring and breaking up the meat until it no longer looks pink.
- Add minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Drain off excess grease while ensuring the meat remains moist.
- Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar, mixing until uniform.
- Lower heat to low-medium and let the sauce simmer for about 8-10 minutes.
Cooking
- Heat a separate skillet over medium.
- Spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice of bread and place them mayo-side down in the pan.
- Assemble on the bread in the skillet: one slice of cheese, a scoop of the sloppy joe mixture, another slice of cheese, then top with the second slice of bread mayo side up.
- Press gently and cook until golden, then flip and cook the other side until the cheese is melted and both sides are deep golden.
- Serve hot.
Notes
Tip: If the bread browns too fast, lower the heat and cover briefly to melt cheese without burning.
