Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 packages (14 oz each) Lil’ Smokies sausages
  • 1 cup brown sugar packs deep caramel flavor
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 cup pineapple chunks (fresh or canned) fresh for texture, canned for ease
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce use low-sodium if desired
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional) skip if feeding kids

Method

Preparation
  1. Whisk brown sugar, pineapple juice, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne until smooth. The glaze should look glossy.
  2. Pour the Lil’ Smokies into the slow cooker and pour the glaze over them, stirring to coat every sausage.
  3. Stir in pineapple chunks so you get bursts of fruit in each scoop.
  4. Cover and cook on Low for 4 hours or on High for 2 hours.
  5. Stir occasionally; you’ll see the sauce thicken and cling to the sausages. The surface should look sticky and shiny when done.
  6. Taste one—sausages should be hot through and the glaze slightly syrupy. Serve warm with toothpicks for easy snacking.

Notes

Make the glaze the night before and refrigerate; pour over sausages in the morning. Use low-sodium soy sauce and add more pineapple juice if the glaze is too salty. Add smoked paprika for a smoky twist.
