My Favorite Homemade Chili

  • 1 medium Yellow onion, chopped Adds a sweet base flavor.
  • 1 lb Ground chuck Rich in flavor and texture.
  • 2 cans Canned tomatoes Use quality for best flavor.
  • 2 cans Ranch style beans Adds unique southwestern flair.
  • 2 tbsp Mild chili seasoning Essential for balanced flavor.

  • 1 medium Bell pepper, chopped Optional for added flavor.
  • 1 cup Pinto beans Adds heartiness.
  • 1 cup Kidney beans Adds protein and texture.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large pot over medium heat, add a drizzle of olive oil and sauté the chopped onion and bell pepper until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the ground chuck to the pot and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, for roughly 8-10 minutes.
  3. Stir in the ranch style beans, pinto beans, and kidney beans.
  4. Sprinkle the mild chili seasoning into the pot, mixing well to coat the meat and vegetables.
  5. Pour in the canned tomatoes and stir everything together until combined.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and let the chili simmer uncovered for 20-30 minutes.
  7. Ladle the chili into bowls and serve hot.

Notes

For variations, try adding diced jalapeños for a spicy kick or make it vegetarian with extra beans. This chili pairs well with cornbread or garlic bread.
