- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the ground beef and brown until dark brown bits form, then drain excess fat.
- Slice the potatoes thinly and layer them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, sprinkling salt, pepper, and garlic powder between layers.
- Spread the browned beef evenly over the potato layers.
- Pour the tomato sauce evenly over the beef.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously on top.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 50-60 minutes.
- In the last 10 minutes, remove the foil to allow the cheese to brown.
- Let the casserole rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Notes
For best results, slice potatoes evenly and do not overcrowd the pan during browning. Customize with spices or cheese to suit your taste.
