Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups Orzo pasta Short, rice-shaped pasta that absorbs the sauce nicely.
  • 1 lb Chicken breast Fresh or frozen, cubed.
  • 2 cups Caramelized onions Properly caramelized for depth of flavor.
  • 4 cups Chicken broth Quality broth for deep flavor.
  • 1 cup Heavy cream Adds a rich and creamy texture.
  • 1 cup Shredded cheese Gruyère or mozzarella, for topping.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large pot, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the cubed chicken and cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes.
  3. Stir in the caramelized onions and mix well with the chicken.
  4. Add the orzo, chicken broth, and heavy cream to the pot. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and stir until everything is well combined.
  5. Pour the mixture into your baking dish, spreading it evenly. Top with shredded cheese.
  6. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Once out of the oven, sprinkle fresh parsley on top before serving.

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the pan when browning chicken for better flavor. Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Let it rest before serving to meld flavors.
