Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add all-purpose flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until the dough is smooth, about 5 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a long rope, twisting them into the classic pretzel shape.
Boiling & Baking
- In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds.
- Remove pretzels and place them on a baking sheet. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
Cooling
- Allow the pretzels to cool slightly before serving to enjoy their perfect texture.
Notes
Store leftover pretzels in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, or wrap tightly to freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes.
