Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) while you prepare the biscuit dough.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add cubed cold butter to the dry ingredients, mixing until the texture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the buttermilk until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead gently, and roll to about 1-inch thick before cutting into rounds.
Cooking
- Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- While the biscuits bake, cook the breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned.
- Sprinkle additional flour over the sausage, whisk in milk, and cook until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Spoon the sausage gravy generously over warm biscuits.
Notes
Don’t overcrowd the pan when cooking sausage for even cooking and browning. For better biscuit texture, bring buttermilk to room temperature first.
