Ingredients

Pasta and Sauces
  • 8 oz Spaghetti noodles High-quality brand recommended.
  • 24 oz Jarred marinara sauce Use your favorite brand or homemade.
Meat
  • 1 lb Ground beef Can substitute with Italian sausage or ground turkey.
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced For added flavor.
Cheese and Cream
  • 8 oz Cream cheese Full-fat gives the best texture.
  • 1/2 cup Sour cream or plain Greek yogurt Both add richness and tang.
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella Low-moisture mozzarella recommended.
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese Optional for topping.
Spices and Seasonings
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning Adds flavor to the meat sauce.
  • 1/2 tsp Salt To season cream cheese mixture.
  • 1/4 tsp Pepper To season cream cheese mixture.
Others
  • 1 tbsp Butter To toss with cooked spaghetti.

Method

Preparation
  1. Boil the spaghetti: Cook the spaghetti noodles in a large pot of salted water until just tender, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and toss with 1 tablespoon of butter.
  2. Cook the meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat and stir in the marinara sauce, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  3. Mix the creamy filling: In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese with sour cream, seasoning with salt and pepper. Add warm pasta water if the mixture is too thick.
Assembly
  1. Layer the casserole: Spread half of the spaghetti noodles in a 9x13 baking dish, dollop the cream cheese mixture over it, and add the remaining spaghetti noodles on top.
  2. Add the meat sauce: Pour the meat sauce over the pasta layers and top with shredded mozzarella and Parmesan.
Baking
  1. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until hot and bubbly, covering initially to prevent drying. Uncover to allow the cheese to brown.
  2. Let it set: Allow the casserole to sit for about 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge or freeze for up to 3 months. To reheat, bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes.
