Ingredients

For the base
  • 1 bag Doritos (your favorite flavor, recommended: nacho cheese or cool ranch)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup cooked bacon, crumbled (about 8-10 slices)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or low-fat sour cream for a lighter version
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped optional, for garnish
Spices
  • 1 tsp garlic powder Fresh garlic for bigger flavor
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste Bacon and cheese usually contain enough salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Soften the cream cheese by letting it sit at room temperature or microwave it for 15-20 seconds.
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream to create a creamy base.
  3. Add the garlic powder and onion powder, then blend the mixture until smooth.
  4. Fold in the crumbled bacon and shredded cheddar cheese, reserving some for topping.
  5. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
Assembly
  1. Lay a generous layer of Doritos at the bottom of a large serving platter or baking dish.
  2. Spoon a generous amount of the cream cheese mixture over the Doritos, spreading it evenly.
  3. Add another layer of Doritos over the cream cheese and repeat until ingredients are used up, ideally stopping after two layers.
  4. Sprinkle the reserved bacon and cheddar cheese on top and add chopped green onions if desired.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 15-20 minutes until warmed through and cheese has melted.
  3. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and slightly golden.
  4. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

This dish can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge before baking. Mix gently to avoid hardening the cream cheese. Variations include adding jalapeños or swapping sour cream for Greek yogurt.
