  • 1 lb Ground beef (80/20 mix) Ideal for moisture and flavor.
  • 1 cup Crumbled saltine crackers Add texture and flavor.
  • 1 cup Milk Split between filling and sauce.
  • 1 can Cream of mushroom soup Provides a rich sauce.
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese Optional, for topping.
  • 2 medium Potatoes Thinly sliced for topping.
Seasonings
  • 1 tsp Italian herbs
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 clove Garlic (minced)
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, crumbled saltine crackers, 1 cup of milk, Italian herbs, onion powder, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  3. Mix until well blended and shape into ½-inch-thick patties.
Cooking
  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and brown each patty for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  2. Transfer the browned patties to a greased 9x13 baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup and remaining milk until smooth and pour over the patties.
  4. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until bubbly.
  5. Let sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, don’t overcrowd the skillet when browning patties. Bring ingredients to room temperature for even cooking.
